Academic Coaches & Technical Interview Coaches offer invaluable opportunities for students to contribute, grow, and connect within our vibrant student community.

Academic Coaches support fellow students by offering advice about the program, connecting students to course resources, and helping to address concerns. As students transition into their online master’s degree programs, Academic Coaches meet with them regularly to provide guidance related to introductory courses and help them navigating the online student experience.

Technical Interview Coaches lead weekly practice sessions and mock interviews aimed at equipping Penn Engineering Online students with essential skills for technical interviews. By hosting interactive group sessions and providing structured guidance, these coaches create a conducive environment for collaborative problem-solving and skill enhancement.

As an Academic Coach, you will play a pivotal role in guiding new students through their journey at Penn Engineering Online. By leveraging your own experience and expertise, you’ll provide invaluable support, helping students navigate the program, connecting them with essential resources, and addressing any concerns.

Academic Coaches serve as trusted peers who meet regularly with students, offering personalized guidance through their introductory courses in the online MAS-CS, MCIT, MSE-DS, MSE-SSC, MSE-AI and MSE-TI degree programs. Your role is to empower students to succeed and thrive in their academic journey, ensuring they have the tools and confidence to achieve their goals.

Provide personalized support to students as they navigate their courses at Penn Engineering Online and work toward their long-term career goals. 

Tutor
Offer supplemental learning support to students in their introductory courses, tailored to their specific program needs:

  • MAS-CS and MCIT: CIT 5910, 5920, 5930, or CIT 5950
  • MSE-DS: CIT 5950, CIS 5450, or CIS 5500
  • MSE-AI: CIS 5210
  • MSE-SSC: CIT 5950

Leadership Experience
Host informational webinars, study sessions, and office hours to help students become familiar with program platforms and university resources, ensuring a smooth transition into the learning environment.

Structure

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide tutoring and coaching services each week by hosting both open and private office hours for students.
  • Offer one-on-one support to help students navigate common challenges, such as adjusting to academic life, managing time effectively, developing strong study habits, and succeeding in introductory courses.
  • Lead group information sessions on key topics that promote student success. Topics may include using student tools and platforms, effective learning strategies, and foundational academic concepts. Sessions are flexible and can be tailored to meet students’ evolving needs.

Eligibility

  • Three or more courses completed
  • Strong GPA and grades (3.0+)
  • A final grade of an A or B in the course you will be supporting
  • Enthusiasm and some experience teaching, mentoring, or advising is preferred
  • Bandwidth to support students for at least 10 – 15 hours per week
  • Energetic, positive, and supportive characteristics
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency and must reside in the United States at the time of employment

Training Requirements

  • Includes both real-time and asynchronous components
  • Covers guidance on advising students, best practices for effective tutoring, and an overview of key program and university resources

Need-to-Know Details

  • We anticipate coaches will work on average 10-15 hrs/week
  • August 17, 2026 – December 13, 2026
  • All Academic Coaches: $25/hr

Become a Technical Interview Coach, and serve as a crucial part in fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment to help students achieve their career goals. The Technical Interview Coach leads weekly Data Structures & Algorithms sessions and System Design sessions aimed at equipping students with essential skills for technical interviews. By hosting collaborative and interactive problem-solving exercises within a group setting, these coaches provide a dynamic platform for students to sharpen their skills, connect with peers, and prepare confidently for their career pursuits.

Structure

  • Host problem-solving and learning sessions to create a structure for accountability and commitment. Topics are flexible and can be adjusted based on participating students’ needs.
  • Provide students with mock technical interview opportunities to practice coding and communication skills.
  • Facilitate a collaborative space where students can connect and network.

Eligibility

  • If MAS-CS or MCIT Online student or alumni:
    • Completion of all 6 core MCIT/MAS-CS courses
    • A final grade of an A or B in CIT 5940 and 5960
  • If MSE-DS, MSE-AI or MSE-SSC Online student or alumni:
    • At least 2 years of experience in a Software Engineering or related computer science role
  • Strong GPA and grades (3.0+)
  • Bandwidth to support the program for at least 10 – 15 hours per week
  • Commitment to serve as Technical Interview Coach throughout the duration of the semester
  • Some experience and enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring, or advising is preferred
  • Energetic, positive, and supportive characteristics
  • US Citizens or Permanent Residents and reside in the United States at the time of employment

Training Requirements

  • Required real-time and asynchronous components
  • Includes information on organizing sessions, best practices for leading practice sessions and mock interviews, and program and university resources.

Need To Know Details

  • We anticipate the Technical Interview Coach will work on average 10 – 15 hrs/week.
  • For Spring 2027: January 11, 2027 – April 25, 2027
  • Pay is $18/hr
